An historic event is the front-page feature of this issue as Wooburn and Bourne End Parish Council take over the lease of the day care centre in Wakeman Road, Bourne End. The lease was handed over by the Friends group who had saved the building and its service when, in 2011, Bucks Council planned to end all day care services and sell off the buildings. It ensures the continuity of this community facility and safeguards it for many years to come. Also on the front page is the sad news that a Target columnist and local river character had died. Peter Osborne will be missed for his humour, his river knowledge and his ability to provide a feature article that was a must-read item in every issue for over 21 years. There’s a tribute to Peter on page 33.

The duck race at Parkfest features on page 3 along with the news that the money raised goes towards Wooburn’s special Christmas event for children, and parents are welcome to come along. There’s an interview with Santa that took place last year and he has great  praise for the people of Wooburn Green. Fund raisers can be found on page 7 after their 40mile paddle from Dorchester over the bank holiday weekend. When the rain threatened to cause problems a few firm words soon sent the clouds scurrying away. Arriving at The Bounty with music then an auction and raffle proved the added boost to their fund raising for Breast Cancer Now.

Photos from summer events feature on pages 10 and 11 to bring back memories as we move into the autumn. Then onto the community centre pages packed with events taking place during the autumn – there’s everything from short mat bowls to belly dancing workshops. And Forum Players talk about their plans for the 2025 panto Two Target Hero awards were the feature of page 24 and these were presented for generous donations of money to the community magazine during 2023. Then on page 26 memories of a 1960s wedding will have readers looking at the traditional group to try and see faces they know.

There’s a Lest we Forget feature on page 27 to remind everyone that this issue covers Remembrance Sunday on 10 November. A delightful new bench in the library garden brings with it memories of Jean Peasley BEM who was founder of Good Neighbours and President of Wye Valley Volunteers. We will remember this special lady.  Past Times on page 32 talks about the wonderful research facilities there are, and both in the library. Historian and author Brian Wheals donated his historic collection to be held locally for people to use. Then there’s the bound volumes of all copies of Target also available for reference purposes.

On page 34 there’s a group photo of French visitors along with local members of the twinning association as they get together and remember the signing of the charter 21 years ago. Still going strong and all great friends as they unite in celebration. Bravo à vous tous. Then on page 35 there’s advance notice of the date of Fun Night – it’s Friday 6 December – Save the date!
