This film starts off with two lovers on an innocent, relaxing honeymoon vacation aboard a riverboat. However, they are pretty much doomed from the start, after choosing love over friendship and human decency for others. Eventually, the characters find themselves in the middle of the Egyptian sea. The key, though, is actually making it off the boat alive with a murderer onboard! The movie has many unexpected turns, and by the end you may be in shock.

The unpredictability of the story is especially pleasing in a mystery. It creates suspense for the viewer, and can really grab an audience's attention. The locations are absolutely beautiful, and really caught the attention. All of the scenery, including the blue river and the desert, really adds suspense to the film and feels natural at the same time. Lastly, the casting is top-notch.

Kenneth Branagh reprises his rich role as Belgium detective Hercules Piorot. His throughline in this story is about hiding his wounds and then making himself vulnerable enough to expose them. He has such fun with the absurdities, obsessiveness, brilliance, and sorrows of this character. You will be captivated with Sophie Okonedo's performance as jazz singer Salome Otterbourne; the chemistry between Salome and Hercule is so well played. Dawn French is fun too.
