movie poster thumbnailIn September we are screening "Top Secret" - the follow on film after Airplane. If you like silliness then this film is for you - it has double rations. Come along to the New Royalty Cinema on Sunday 21st Sept at 16:00 (but dont tell anyone you are coming - it's top secret!).

Brace yourself for exploding cows, underwater bar brawls, and the most gloriously absurd spy spoof ever made – Top Secret! (1984) is the comedy you never knew you needed, and still won’t quite understand after watching (in the best possible way). From the creators of Airplane! (no not the Wright brothers!), this deliriously daft Cold War caper stars a baby-faced Val Kilmer in his film debut as Nick Rivers – an Elvis-style rock 'n' roll star who somehow ends up tangled in a madcap plot to rescue a scientist, topple the East German regime, and look fabulous while doing it.

Expect backwards bookshops, bizarre dance routines and underwater fights, the jokes come thick, fast, and frequently from left field – blink and you'll miss at least three. Whether you’re a fan of slapstick, surreal humour, or just enjoy watching grown men in lederhosen getting up to mischief, Top Secret! delivers laughs by the barrel-load. It’s nonsense. It’s glorious. And it’s an 80s comedy classic that refuses to make sense — which is exactly why it’s brilliant.

Grab your ice cream and leave your logic at the door.

Quiz Question: see if you can spot the connection to those more recent comedy classics Doc Martin and Downton Abbey!!!
