Here is the December/January issue of Bourne End's community magazine "Target"
.
Last issue of 2025 and the front page celebrates winners and the biggest night of the year. It’s a good read especially the lovely story about Joan Sykes who won the ‘Great Neighbour’ Award for the care she shows to so many in the community. On the Community Centre pages there’s pictures from the centre talk all about chocolate and that’s including the tasting. Then details of the 2026 panto which transports you to a tropical island with Robinson Crusoe and a host of friends along with some baddies hellbent on causing mayhem.
On page 10 there’s a map to help you find your way around Fun Night. Don’t forget to be there for the ‘switch on’ when this year’s winner presses the button and the light shines out along The Parade. There’s also a very complimentary review of Bourne End that reckons the village is a great place to live – listing spots that make it special. Well Target readers knew that anyway. On page 11 there’s a huge appeal from a retired doctor asking for volunteers to become a Community First Responder. From first hand experience Peter Havelock appreciated the great job they do in an emergency. Then on page 12 read all about the new team who will take over arrangements for the Children’s Christmas Light competition, the judging then following through to the big switch on at Fun Night. Grateful thanks to Kath and Wendy who have been doing this but now want to hand it over to a younger team.

Details of the Darts Marathon can be found on page 15 along with a picture of the team in fabulous shirts. Pages 18 and 19 feature some of the wonderful entries for the Junior Craft Show and readers will be amazed to see the skill and imagination these young people have shown. On page 27 there’s a story about the new owners of The Fruit and Flower Market as they are pictured with all the regular staff. A Dame and a High Sheriff opened the Golden Years exhibition at the Community Centre. Dame Mary Berry was delighted to see so many people keen to learn about getting the best from life while the High Sheriff, Pippa Kirkbride, advocates volunteering as a great way to be involved and help others. Take Your Target went to France and Alaska packed in suitcases ready for a suitable occasion to come out and be photographed.
On page 33 readers get to meet the winner of the Children’s Christmas Light competition from Juniper Hill School. And there’s a picture with her teacher who remembers submitting a design when she was a pupil at Claytons. Now she has the winning pupil in her class. Joan Sykes is the lady in the news as she features with family and friends who were there to see Joan win her category as a ‘Great Neighbour’. Regular features and plenty more to read in this issue before it will be Issue 1 of Volume 62 in 2026 to be published at the end of January.
